Translating Environmental, Social and Governance Factors into Sustainable Business Value

World Business Council for Sustainable Development: “Do companies and investors agree on which sustainability factors are material? Why do these issues remain outside most dialogues between company managers and mainstream asset managers? Are investors asking the right questions? These questions were addressed in a series of international workshops between investors and companies throughout 2008. Organized by the WBCSD and the United Nations Environmental Programme Finance Initiative, a summary of the key findings has been published in April 2010 in “Translating environmental, social and governance factors into sustainable business value”. The document confirms previous assumptions that several communication gaps are at the heart of the issue on valuing corporate environmental, governmental and social factors and sustainability. It provides important insights for company managers and investors on how their business and investment philosophy and practices going forward can better address the why, what and how of communicating these factors and sustainability to capital markets.”
